What is manifesting?
If you search for terms like “manifestation instructions” or “manifest love” on social media like TikTok, you will get countless hits. But do you actually know what exactly that means? Manifesting is about bringing a wish into reality – using the power of thought alone , supported by the “right” manifestation method.
You just have to believe in it hard enough and you can have anything. This is what the current trend on social media and also in books promises. This may sound a bit esoteric or like mumbo jumbo, but there is a little truth behind it. Because we can influence our feelings and thoughts – and thus come closer to our goals or understand ourselves better.
Manifesting is based on the idea that we have and have influence – not only with our actions, but also with our feelings, words, thoughts and the energy that is connected to everything. Spiritual traditions around the world have been dealing with this for thousands of years.
If there is one faith that can move mountains, it is faith in your own strength.

“Just manifest everything you desire!”
We humans strive for quick and easy solutions to our problems. A request like “think and become rich” naturally sounds tempting.
Each of us probably has at least one area in life that could be better, for example:
- Profession
- Money/abundance
- Health
- Love and partnership
- other relationships (family, friendships, etc.)
- spiritual or personal development
Manifesting promises that we can get anything we desire. The thesis behind it: If we direct the power of our thoughts in a targeted manner, we can attract everything we long for into our lives. No matter whether we are looking for the woman of our dreams, a nice apartment or simply more self-confidence. Various ways are possible to get closer to the goals.
How does manifesting work?
There are countless methods for manifesting and each of the “manifestation coaches” on TikTok and Co. prefers a different one:

In all of these methods, wishes are put into words over and over again in different ways and repeated either out loud or in a whisper or in your mind.
All techniques are based on the ancient principle mentioned, which is carried over into the modern age as follows:
- Thoughts become words, words become actions, actions become habits, habits become value systems, and value systems become attitudes and perceptions.
- Since we always have thoughts, we are constantly manifesting.
Manifesting love – is that possible?
No question, one topic is always at the top when it comes to wishing and manifesting: love, finally getting someone who doesn’t notice you or getting someone in your heart at all. How does it work – manifest love?
Anyone who is single and wants a relationship will receive countless tips and instructions on how to “finally make love work”.
However, it is important to remember: 1 +1 = 2. This equation cannot work if we only use love to manifest with a focus on the other person. Because many spiritual traditions also say this (not just when it comes to love): “It’s not what you do that matters, but how you are!”
That’s why we should also deal with questions like:
- How do I want to be as a partner?
- What do I have to give?
- What am I (not) willing to do for the partnership?
These are possible questions that help with self-reflection. And which can be a step towards more love – including self-love! – and bring a new, happy partnership into life.
How to Manifest in 6 Steps:
Start small!
Common recommendation: Manifest that you will get a specific parking space or a seat on a bus or train. If such “little things” work more and more often, you can move on to bigger topics.
A relaxed and positive attitude is important. And: manifest only for yourself, i.e. without manipulating anyone else!
Preparation:
Be clear about your wants and needs. Journaling or a vision board can help .
To manifest a desire:
- Treat yourself to time and peace. Create a comfortable environment.
- Formulate a wish specifically and as if it had already come true – either in your head or, even better, in writing. Avoid negative phrases such as “none” or “not”. When manifesting love, instead of “I don’t want to be alone anymore,” choose, for example, “I’m going through life with a loving partner.”
- Express your wish. How does it feel when it comes true? Close your eyes and feel within yourself. You gently push the doubtful thoughts aside. Feel how the wish fulfills you more and more
- Repeat the wish one last time – and then let it go. You can imagine yourself sending it upwards (to the universe) as an invisible letter.
- Go through your everyday life with an open mind – but free of any expectations about whether and how your wish will manifest itself.
- If this gives you clear impulses about what you should – or should not – do: act accordingly .
Good to know: Steps 4 to 6 are the most difficult when manifesting. Be patient!
Revival of ancient knowledge
In 1937, the book “Think and Grow Rich” by the American author Napoleon Hill was published, which is about the manifestation of money and abundance and is still being published today.
The documentary “The Secret” triggered a new wave of manifestations after its release in 1998. “Orders from the Universe” by author Bärbel Mohr is considered the “little Bible of manifesting” and has sold two million copies worldwide to date.
Today, the trend around manifesting is spreading primarily on social media such as TikTok or Instagram.
Why do you have to be careful about manifesting?
“You just have to really believe in it and do everything right – then you’ll get what you want.”
This statement should be viewed with caution.
People might interpret a sentence like this as: “It’s really simple, and if manifesting doesn’t work for you, you’re just too stupid.” Of course, that’s neither a helpful nor healthy conclusion – for any person, least of all for people who, for example, are depressed and insecure. In the worst case, they slip deeper into depression. There is also a risk that people will fall for dubious “manifestation gurus” and spend a lot of money on their courses or communities.
So stay realistic.
In a positive sense, you can use manifesting as a method to:
- to become clear about your own wishes or personal boundaries
- to set achievable goals
- to practice self-efficacy in an appreciative way
- to go through life with a positive attitude
Playful and relaxed
There are many myths surrounding manifesting. With some dubious methods, it is important to be vigilant. It’s best to take a relaxed approach to manifesting, just try it out in a playful way and get closer to your desires. Formulating a goal for yourself and constantly working towards it in your mind is definitely a good idea.
