For a while now, the rumor of the Ayra starr and Rema relationship has been an unsolved puzzle between the two young top rated artist fans.
Who is Ayra Starr
On June 14, 2002, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, better known as Ayra Starr was born in Cotonou, Benin, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, as well. She is of Yoruba origin and hails from Nigeria. Because of her father’s business, her family traveled around a lot when she was in high school, which made it difficult for her to make lasting friendships.
Her interest in singing stems primarily from her family because she was reared in a musically inclined household. She started writing songs with her brother at the age of ten and participated in a high school choir. She studied at Les Cours Sonou University, where she graduated with a BA in “political science” and international relations. Because of her age and appearance, she experienced frequent bullying from her peers during her time in college.
Ayra Starr turned to music as a way to cope with the emotions that the taunting caused her to feel. “I would listen to “Nicki Minaj” on my way to school, and I’d feel like the second Nicki Minaj.” Starr’s mother always urged her to pursue a singing career and was highly supportive of her musical goals.
Who Is Rema
Rapper, singer, and composer Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema (born May 1, 2000) is a Nigerian. He goes by Rema professionally. His 2019 song “Dumebi” was the catalyst for his early notoriety. He signed with D’Prince’s record company, Jonzing World, in the same year. His 2022 hit “Calm Down” brought him more notoriety. It included an American singer Selena Gomez in a remix that climbed at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the US Afrobeats Songs chart for an unprecedented 58 weeks.
Childhood
Born into a Christian household, Divine Ikubor was raised in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. When he was in secondary school, he began to sing and rap. He completed his elementary and secondary schooling at Edo’s Ighile Group of Schools. With the death of his father and older brother, Rema was left to take care of his mother.
Career
He began performing with Alpha P in churches. In the year 2018. Rema shared a popular freestyle to D’Prince’s song “Gucci Gang” on Instagram. After seeing the message, D’Prince decided to fly him to Lagos and offer the young artist a record deal. In 2019, record producer Don Jazzy’s Jonzing World, a division of Mavin Records, inked Rema to a record contract.
In 2019, he proceeded to release his debut EP titled “Rema,” which reached its highest position on Apple Music Nigeria. The music video for “Dumebi,” a significant breakthrough single from his self-titled EP, was published by Mavins and Jonzing World on May 21, 2019. Diana Eneje had a brief appearance in the video. Ademola Falomo directed the video, which has received 70 million views on YouTube thus far.
Later that summer, in 2019, one of his other most well-known songs from the EP became even more well-known when it was included to the summer playlist of Barack Obama, the former US president.
Rema’s songs were featured on the FIFA 21 soundtracks in September 2020.
Alongside label-mate Ayra Starr, Rema was introduced as a brand ambassador for the well-known soft drink Pepsi in September 2021.
The Rumor
As we all know, the two artist are signed under one record label, The Marvins Record. Though that alone can easily spark such rumors as the two artist are constantly being seen together almost all the time.
But according to the video posted by daily trends Africa on youtube, which you will find below. She denied the whole rumor and called it a bluff.
Rema, on the other hand, hasn’t made any comment on that.
Conclusion
From all our investigation and information gathering, we came to a conclusion that the two top-rated young Nigerian artists, Ayra Starr and Rema are not in a romantic relationship in any way but rather two record label mates that just love hanging out with each other. Nothing more, nothing less.
